Barcelona stages flamenco at theatre scale, a street back from the Rambla.
Catalonia is not flamenco country and Barcelona books it anyway, in volume: touring companies, raked auditoriums, and two Rambla tablaos that have been running since the sixties. You sit further from the boards here than you would in Seville, and the production is bigger for it.

The Sacromonte Caves
Granada’s gitano families have performed in these hillside caves since the nineteenth century, and the zambra they dance is a wedding form, not a stage repertoire. The rooms are long and narrow with the audience against both walls, so there is no bad seat and no distance either. Most shows include the walk up from the Albaicín, which is steeper than it looks on a map.

The Beginner Class
An hour with a professional, usually in a studio near the old town, learning a sevillanas step and the palmas that go under it. You will not dance anything by the end. You will spend the rest of the trip watching the feet instead of the skirts, which is the point.

Almost nothing starts before nine, plenty starts at ten thirty, and the second sitting is usually the better one because the room has warmed up. That collides with dinner, which is why so many of these tickets come with food attached. Decide which meal you are giving up before you book.
